Chatham Township — 07928 Morris County NJ
The Chatham Township is located in Morris County, 23 miles west of New York City. Unlike Chatham Borough, Chatham Township is not on the train line. Many commuters drive to the Summit train station, which is about 15 minutes away and has plenty of non-resident parking.
Chatham Township is well know for its outstanding school system, an easy commute into NYC, and is considered the suburb of choice by many affluent professionals. Chatham Township residents enjoy an above average socioeconomic level, with a high percentage of college graduates, business executives and CEO’s employed in professional occupations at one of the nearby corporate headquarters, and in NYC.
Chatham Township occupies an area of approximately 9.5 square miles, has a population of near 11,000. Lot sizes can vary from .3, to more than an acre.
The predominate style of single family residential architecture, is mixed. A few neighborhoods consist of 1950s era spilt level and ranch style houses, with many having been updated and expanded. The Wickham Woods section was built in the 1970s, with the majority being center hall colonial. In the Rolling Hill Section, the trend has been for builders to tear down the existing houses and rebuild extraordinarily beautiful custom homes. The Rolling Hill area is truly spectacular. Prices range upwards from $1 million. There are six different townhouse and condominium communities in Chatham Township, with approximately 900 units in total. The prices range from $250,000 to $1.7 million.
Chatham Township Schools & Amenities
Both Chatham Township and Chatham Borough share the same school system. There are a total of six schools in the Chathams. Milton Avenue, Southern Boulevard and Washington Avenue Schools are for public school students in kindergarten through third grade. Fourth and fifth grades attend the Lafayette School, while grades six to eight go to the Chatham Middle School.
Chatham High School is recognized nationally as an outstanding institution. It was awarded No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon status in 2004 and has ranked consistently, in various publications, as one of New Jersey's finest schools. The vast majority of graduates go on to attend college. Saint Patrick's is a private Catholic school in Chatham Borough, for students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight.
The Township is served by a paid 23 member police force, and 2 volunteer fire companies, both of which maintain up-to-date equipment, sufficient to handle existing, and anticipated, demands. The Volunteer Chatham Emergency Squad serves both the Township and the Borough of Chatham for medical emergencies.
The Township has many recreational areas. There are also County Parks and the Great Swamp Education Center. A major portion of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is located within the Township. The Township employs a Recreation Director to coordinate a joint recreation program for residents of all ages, in partnership with Chatham Borough.
Chatham Township is a very desirable suburb. Well maintained houses with spacious yards ensure that property here maintains a high value. Real estate prices remain stable, and Chatham Township homes have always been a solid investment.
